driver
An interface that supports communication between an application and another application or a peripheral device such as a printer. For example, Actuate BIRT iServer uses drivers to communicate with third-party programs. Actuate products use Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) and open database connectivity (ODBC) drivers to communicate with databases.
