Hello everyone, I am wondering, if it is possible to integrate reports, designed in BIRT, into the Pentaho BI server interface. My idea is to manage user priviliges and access via the BI server and create the reports with BIRT. Is that anyhow feasible? Thanks for any hint and advice! Regards Max

Hi Max, it is feasible but requires some manual coding. The reason for that is that the pentaho team decided to not maintain the interface between the platform and BIRT any longer. So it is really old and probably doesn't work with the current version of BIRT (i believe that they ship BIRT 2.3 as the version). In addition it has some bugs. Nevertheless i already implemented a up to date interface for one of my customers to enable him to use BIRT 4.2. The platform itself is module based. Therefore one could simply develop a new BIRT module and replace the older one. Perhaps there are some open source projects that also offer up to date BIRT plugins. One project i know is: http://b-e-o.blogspo...lipse-birt.html I m not sure if it also is aware of the security constraints set up in the user management console and if it enables you to schedule reports.

Yes Max, Integration may be possible in some pentaho BI interfaces but not possible in all cases..

Thanks,

Hello Max,

Yes it it possible, BIRT has three major APIs. The first one, called the Design engine API, is to help you create your BIRT reports. The second one, called the Report engine API, is for consuming your report files on a web server, and the third one, called the chart engine, is for displaying the charts on a web server. Let's start the process of creating a report in BIRT.

As per BIRT API Rules you can easily integrate reports in Pentaho BI Server.

Thanks,
Sandra, TekSlate
