Selecting a data source
The following section describes how to select a data source. The procedure for selecting the data source for your report depends on the template you select. If you select a template that does not include a data set, Report Studio prompts you to select a custom data source, an information object, or a data object stored in the repository. If you choose a cross tab template, you must select a data object that contains a cube or a data model.
How to create a report design using a custom data source
1 Obtain the URL to access the Actuate Report Studio component from your administrator. Choose Actuate Report Studio, as shown in Figure 2‑4.

2 Report Studio appears, as shown in Figure 2‑5. In Create Report, choose New to create a new report.

6 Optionally select Create a parameter to filter the last column.
*Select this option to activate any existing parameters for the last data field, Amount. After you insert the data field in the report design, in the Data menu, choose Parameters and make your selection to specify viewing parameters for data in that column.
*Deselect this option to view all data rows in the data field.
Choose OK. The selected data fields appear in Available Data in Report Studio, as shown in Figure 2‑9.

7 To manually select and insert data fields in a report table, in Report Studio, press Ctrl, and in Available Data, select each data field to insert in the table.
8 Drag the fields and drop them in the table placeholder in the display pane. The order in which you select the data fields is important because they appear in the report in the order of selection.
For each data field you insert, a column appears in the table, displaying up to 50 values. Notice that the data field names, PAYMENTDATE, CUSTOMERNUMBER, CHECKNUMBER, and AMOUNT, appear at the top of each column. These items are called column headers, and Report Studio creates them when you insert data fields in a table.

Data displays the data sets included in the template.
2 In Select Data to Use, select a data set, then choose OK.
Table Builder appears listing the data fields in the selected data set. Use Table Builder to select and insert data fields in a BIRT design.
How to select an information object
This procedure assumes that the option to access information objects has been enabled in the Report Studio configuration file.
1 In Report Template, select a template that does not contain a data set. Choose OK. Data Source appears.
2 In Data Source, select Information Objects. Then, choose OK.
3 Select Information Object appears. Navigate to the folder that contains the information object to use. An information object has a .iob file‑name extension. Select the information object, as shown in Figure 2‑12. Then, choose OK.
Table Builder appears listing the data fields in the selected data set. You
